In my previous post I mentioned that I'm trying a new schedule for blog promotion which includes leaving comments on other sites. All of the research I've done emphasizes the idea of leaving comments that add VALUE. But I got to thinking, "how do you define VALUE?"
Luckily I found this great post on Problogger that gives great tips on how to leave comments that add value to the discussion. This post really clarified proper comment etiquette for me.
Leave Comments That Add Value - Problogger
I have to say - the idea of blog promotion never really occurred to me other than letting a few friends know about my blog and putting it in my profile for some sites I use a lot. But now you have me thinking...
ReplyDeleteI also have a question semi-related to the value adding. How would you handle it if you made a recipe on someone's food blog and it didn't turn out well at all? Would you note it in a comment like "I love this recipe, unfortunately it never came together for me like in your picture. Thanks for the inspiration, though!" Or is a "negative" post like that bad? Could it lead to "hurting your (own) brand"?
Personally - I think I'd like to hear if there were a problem with something I posted; I'd want to have the chance to correct it before it messed up someone else. But maybe it would just hurt the feelings of the blog owner?
Great question T$!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually going to publish a poll about this because I think it's a really relevant and interesting topic.
You might also check out a post I wrote on Food Blog Alliance about this same topic. Lots of comments about commenting!
