15 Free Web-Based Photo Editors

A handheld digital camera.Image via Wikipedia

Improving food photographs is a major topic on this blog because I really believe that strong photographs are essential for a successful food blog.

In the past I've blogged about how improving your food photos can help you drive more traffic and one of the key components of improving your photos is to edit them in a photo editor like PhotoShop.

In the photo-editing software world, PhotoShop is the king.  This piece of software is truly amazing and powerful.  But alas, it is also EXPENSIVE!  I'm lucky enough to receive an education discount (one of the perks of being a photography professor!) but many people simply can't afford it.

Luckily, I found this great list of free web-based photo editors.  All you need is a connection to the internet and your set.  The list does a great job of comparing features, so take a little bit of time and figure out which photo-editing software works for you.

Do any of you use the sites on this list?  Do you have any tips?  Do you use a web-based photo editor that isn't on the list?  Leave a comment and let all of us know!

  1. I've been using Photoshop Elements since I started blogging and it works pretty well for me. Someday, I'd like to move up to the full version, but I know it will take tons of time for me to learn how to use it.

Recently, I've discovered Picnik.com and I have fallen in love with it! You can do all of the basic editing you need and it is very easy to use. Also, you can add text, frames, and lots of special effects to your photos. My favorite part is the collage maker. I love that I can make eye-catching photo vignettes with it!
