Better Food Photos In Under 2 Minutes!

cherries

Quick Tip

Here is a quick tip that can make immense improvements to your food photographs.

A couple of weeks ago I published a post about getting your photographs published on foodgawker, tastespotting, and photograzing. One of the tips was to take 2 minutes to arrange the food before shooting and that is what I want to elaborate on today.

Quick tip in second part of post...

Food Styling Made Easy

In the two photographs above all I did was place cherries in a small glass. But before I started shooting, I made sure that ALL of the stems of the cherries were pointing up. I knew that I wanted the curly lines of the stems to add visual drama, so I took a minute to arrange and STYLE the cherries accordingly.

It only took about a minute, but that minute made all the difference. I really think the two photographs would've been quite boring without all of the lines of the stems.

So next time you shoot make sure you take two minutes to arrange and style the food BEFORE you shoot. Make it look pretty and I guarantee your photos will be stunning!

Simple, right?

  3. Bonus points if any of the cherries in the front are in focus.
