This is one of the easiest and most effective things you can do to increase your email subscriptions. I used this tip on my food blog and saw my subscriptions instantly clime.
How to increase email subscriptions in second part of post...
Stop Using The Word "Subscribe"
Yup, it's that simple. If you are asking your readers to "subscribe" to your rss feed or email updates you might be inadvertently pushing potential readers away. The word "subscribe" psychologically implies a required payment even if none is actually required. Think about it. When else do you hear the term "subscribe"? As soon as I changed the terminology, my subscriber numbers immediately started to increase.
Changing the terminology surrounding rss and email newsletters is easy. Instead of saying "subscribe to my rss feed" try "receive my free rss feed". For email newsletters I always use "get our free updates via email!" Using this form of language implies less of a commitment to the reader and makes it crystal clear what they are signing up for.
Do you use different terminology? Leave a comment and let us know!
